Fighting Fistula
Did you know that on January 22nd, Dr. Bill Rawls, a member of our church, headed a team of local doctors who traveled to Nazareth Hospital in Kenya, in the name of First Presbyterian Church Norfolk, to step up to the plate in the fight against fistula?
Do you know anything about fistula? Probably not, but the World Health Organization estimates two to three million women suffer with untreated fistula for want of a simple surgery that could transform their lives. Bill Rawls and our partners in Kenya are doing something about that.
In January, Dr. Rawls and his team provided surgery to many women suffering from fistula, as well as training for the Kenyan doctors. They provided instruction to the Kenyan doctors so that this trip was just the beginning, a seed of hope that was planted in the name of all the young women who are now outcast from their society because they suffer from fistula - an easily corrected condition.
Let's keep our Kenyan medical partners in our prayers as they carry on the work of Dr. Rawls and his team, changing the world one procedure at a time.
