feedNORFOLK, launched in December 2012, is the brainchild of First Presbyterian Church. This relatively new community outreach program makes $5.00 Hardee's gift cards available for purchase by individuals desiring to give to those less fortunate on our streets or otherwise in our community. In addition to providing the recipient with means to a meal, the cards are packaged in a sleeve with a comprehensive listing of community resources offering emergency shelter, hotlines and other assistance information.
“Our congregation is very excited about the new program,” stated Jim Wood, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian. “Many of us live or work in the city and have been looking for a way to give to those less fortunate but have been reluctant to give money. feedNORFOLK provides a tangible, caring avenue to provide food to those in need.”
Simply put, these cards provide a way for us to say yes to a stranger in need. And as the cards do not carry a cash value, or eligible for cash back by the user, the givers can be assured they will be used for food and nothing else.
Although feedNORFOLK is an initiative of First Presbyterian Church, plans are being discussed to open it up to other faith and non-faith based organizations and fast food retailers that would like to participate.
feedNorfolk cards are available for purchase at the FPC Welcome Desk.
