Joy Hickey started working at the Welcome Desk in the summer of 2013. Prior to FPC she worked at a PC-USA church in Pittsburgh, PA. Although she is not a Steelers fan per say, she does thoroughly enjoy the differences in cultures and customs (fanaticism) wherever she finds herself.

Joy was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a recent graduate from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with the post graduate Pneuma certificate in Spiritual Direction. Her life has been greatly influenced by Ignatian Spirituality and the spiritual exercises:

“God freely created us so that we might know, love, and serve him in this life and be happy with him forever ... All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him more faithfully. As a result, we ought to appreciate and use these gifts of God insofar as they help us toward our goal of loving service and union with God. But insofar as any created things hinder our progress toward our goal, we ought to let them go.” ― St. Ignatius of Loyola

Joy and her husband, Sergio, met in Japan. They have been married for 3 years and have a beautiful German Shepherd Dog, (WhiKsey) who loves to camp and swim.

Joy tries to get out into nature as much as possible. She enjoys raising chickens, travel, snowboarding, sewing, reading and PC gaming.
